1. Recognize how much waste you are producing, and what you may need to change. The link below will bring you to a waste log. You will need to click on "File" then "make a copy..." and you will have your very own waste log to keep track of the waste you produce. After this step have 3 bins in your home. One for composting, one for recycling and one for garbage. Soon after, you will have no need for the garbage bin.
WasteLog!2. Decide what items will be the easiest for you to swap out. Because remember, starting small will lead to greater success.
3. Prepare to go zero waste by, purchasing items that will help you better succeed in your journey. Remember though, use everything up you have already and start buying new gradually. For example, that bottle of soap in your shower. Finish the bottle then properly dispose of it, then buy a bar of soap with little to no packaging.
4. Start your journey! Get a mason jar, label it "trash jar" and try to keep it as empty as possible! If you have an item that cannot be reused, recycled or composted, add it to the jar. After each month if it starts to fill up, empty it out and evaluate the garbage that is in there and reflect on the items you can swap out.
