The average American produces 4.4 pounds of trash per day. 2/3 of all landfill waste is either compostable or recyclable. I'm sure most of you have seen the video of the poor turtle getting a plastic straw ripped from it's nose. If you haven't here is a link. If that video isn't enough to prove to you to discontinue the use of plastic straws, maybe this will. In the US alone there are about 500 million straws thrown away each day, thats enough to fill up 130 school buses. Straws are one of the simplest and easiest swaps to make. "It's only one straw" you may think, but just remember it adds up and will never compost down.Choosing to compost would not only create a natural fertilizer for your home but decrease the amount of waste you send to landfills each year. Next time you cook at home or throw something away look in your garbage and notice the items you have in there. If you were to take everything out that you could either compost or recycle you would only have about 2 pounds of waste left at the end of the week.
